Below is a drawing of a Long House and two of the Coastal Salish people who would have lived in a house like it. The Coastal Salish people living in the area that we call Seattle lived good lives. It seemed to them that "The First People" -- the spirits all around them in nature -- were giving them everything they needed to live. They found their food in the water and forests around them. They didn't have to farm to create food for themselves. They found the material for their clothes, houses and canoes in the cedars that grew all around them.
